About Me

Born in Beijing, China, pianist Rong Sui began her professional piano studies at the Central Conservatory of Music Pre-College Division at the age of ten. She later earned her Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Michigan, graduating with highest honors as a James B. Angell Scholar, followed by both a Master of Music and a Performer Diploma in Piano at Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, where she studied with Jean-Louis Haguenauer. Currently, Rong is pursuing her Doctor of Musical Arts in Piano Performance and Pedagogy at the University of Michigan under the guidance of Christopher Harding, while also completing a Master’s degree in Chamber Music Performance.

Winner of several awards including First Prize at the Marquette Symphony’s Youth Concerto Competition and Alice Kern Award for Piano Pedagogy, Rong has appeared as soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral pianist across North America, Europe, and Asia. The festivals she attended include the Sicily International Piano Festival, the Rebecca Penneys Piano Festival, the Chautauqua Music Festival, the MasterWorks Festival, and the Shanghai Spring International Music Festival, among others. Her concerto appearances include Camille Saint-Saëns’s Piano Concerto No. 2 with the Marquette Symphony Orchestra and an upcoming performance of Rachmaninoff’s Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini with the Ann Arbor Symphony at Hill Auditorium in 2026. As a chamber musician, she is a founding member of Trio Stella at Michigan and has collaborated widely in repertoire spanning both classical and modern composers all over the world.

In addition to performing, Rong is deeply committed to teaching and pedagogy. She serves as an instructor in the University of Michigan’s Piano Pedagogy Laboratory Program (PPLP), where she mentors pre-college students in both piano and theory, preparing them for Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) examinations, AP Theory tests, and regular recitals. Beyond the university, her teaching experience includes positions at Interlochen Arts Camp, Belvoir Terrace Summer Arts Program, and the Indiana University Young Pianists Program.
